Abstract

The following communication was delivered as part of the seminar entitled «Social protection and migration» and the inauguration of the Aníbal de Almeida Archives Collection on 14 May, 2013 at the the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal, Braga Regional Centre. It offers a valuable portrayal of social services provided to the Portuguese community in France since the end of World War II. Drawing on his professional experience as a social counselor of the Embassy of Portugal in Paris, the author addresses the different stages of migration policies in both countries, the living conditions of Portuguese immigrants and the role played by public and private institutions.
