As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal or conference for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Submissions that do not follow the length requirement and citation style will be immediately rejected.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF and adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the provided submisstion template.
  • Where available, DOI for the references must be provided.
  • By submitting I, the author, agree to the licensing and ethics statement used by this journal.
  • I have obtained permission to use copyright sources (e.g, images).
  • The authors have an associated ORCID.
  • The submission is the only one that the author has in the journal workflow.

Submitting Manuscripts Electronically
To submit a manuscript, authors must register on the journal submission system (make sure you check the "Author" role) and follow the submission process, by clicking the "New submission" link on the User Home:

  • Step 1: Select the journal section and verify the submission checklist.

  • Step 2: Upload the main file (Word document).

  • Step 3: Enter the submission metadata (author names, affiliation, ORCID, abstract, keywords, etc.)

  • Step 4: Upload supplementary files. In this step, you should provide a zip file with the image files used in the paper.

  • Step 5: Confirm the submission.

Articles
Authors are invited to submit scholarly papers, under the stated aims and scope of JSTA. The publishing language is English. Articles should be anonymized for double-blind peer review and should have between 4500 and 8000 words.

Reviews
JSTA also accepts material to be reviewed. Publishers, event organizers and galleries may submit books, CDs, DVD's, catalogues, CD-ROMs, and other review materials for consideration to jsta@porto.ucp.pt. Materials submitted for consideration will not be returned. Reviews should be no longer than 1500 words.

Audiovisual Essays
JSTA aims to create a conceptual discussion around the audiovisual essay, not only as a creative process but also as a pedagogical and academic tool, to generate concepts and criteria for evaluation and scientific consideration. Please see all the details of the Open Call here.

Copyrights to illustrations published in the journal remain with their current copyright holders.
It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission to quote from copyright sources.
